Semeli Nemea Red

Wine: Semeli Nemea 2001

Producer: George Kokotos

Type: Vin d’appellation d’origine de qualité supérieure - Nemea, dry red wine

Grape Varieties: Agiorgitiko (St. George)

Vineyard: In the region of Corinth, vines are cultivated from sea level to a height of 800m. Our vineyards at Koutsi in Nemea are situated at an altitude of 650m. It is in this area that one of the finest Greek grape varieties the Agiorgitiko is grown. The wine of Nemea well deserves the name "Hercules Blood" given it by the local growers who attribute the qualities of this full bodied, deep red wine to the mythological hero. The wine ages well. Harvest is usually at the end of September.

Soil: Limestone

Yield: 60 hl/ha

Vinification: Grapes are handpicked and transported in small baskets. Classic method of red vinification. Fermentation at 25-28°C, wine runs off the skins after a maceration of approximately 7 days. Matured in French oak casks for at least 12 months and a further 6 months in bottle.

Analysis:
Alcohol 12.5%vol.
Total acidity 5.0g/l.
Residual sugar 1.5g/l.

Tasting Notes: Deep crimson colour with redish highlights. Condensed aromas of red fruits, cherries, dry fruits and fine spicy and elegant use of oak blend the nose. Extremely smooth and soft in the mouth with rounded tannins that give length. Serve at 16-18°C with red meats, lamb, hams and hard cheeses.
